A random testing program has ongoing administrative requirements that extend beyond simply sending a driver to a collection site. A C/TPA can manage many of those recurring tasks for the employer.
What that management can include
Depending on the service arrangement, a C/TPA can administer the random pool, coordinate required testing, maintain program records, support roster changes, and help keep the testing program moving throughout the year.
For many employers, the value is consistency. Someone is watching the administrative pieces that otherwise tend to live across spreadsheets, emails, calendars, and individual managers.
Why this matters
DOT random testing requirements continue throughout the year. Personnel changes, missed communications, incomplete documentation, or inconsistent follow-through can create gaps even when an employer understands the basic rule.
The employer still owns compliance
A C/TPA can take on substantial administration, but the employer remains responsible for complying with the applicable DOT and FMCSA requirements.
